The wines are characterized by their unmistakable structure: fruity and terroir-specific. The dry, completely fermented wines in the classic "Federspiel" (12%vol) and "Smaragd" (13%vol) styles make up the greatest share. Being a vintner in this unique landscape is a heritage and a challenge alike.

Hyacinth, lime, honey, and white peach emanate from the glass of 2007 Riesling Smaragd Wachstum Toni Bodenstein. One sip will convince you that this sappy wine of enveloping richness could only come from an exceptional site. Furthermore, your powers of imagination would have to be dead, I suspect, not to start babbling about rocks and stones, because they seem to pave the bed on which this torrent of fruits and flowers flows. Suggestions of tart blueberry skin and pungent lime zest enliven a long, rich, buoyant finish. This harbors huge phenolic intensity yet is almost soothing in its opulence; is dense, yet refreshing. Follow it wherever it leads, for at least the next 8-10 years.

Wine Enthusiast
While it is obviously deliciously rich, this wine also has a finely wrought, precious porcelain character, a delicacy that gives it a wonderful lift. The white fruits are just spiced, with an herbal element, finishing with a soft lilt.

Elegant and pure-tasting, with pretty flavors of apple, grapefruit and peach that are accented by notes of slate and sea salt. The long, citrus-infused finish is bright yet delicate. Should develop nicely in the cellar. Drink now through 2016. 75 cases imported.

Sustainably Grown
Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

Wines that are still in the barrel and have yet to be bottled. Futures offer the opportunity to invest in a wine before it arrives in our store.
